Windows 7 Introduction

For those of you looking for a bit more information on Windows 7, here is a general description.

Windows 7 is the latest release of Microsoft Windows. Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009, and reached general retail availability on October 22, 2009, less than three years after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista. 

Unlike Windows Vista, which introduced a large number of new features, Windows 7 was intended to be a more focused, incremental upgrade to the Windows line, with the goal of being compatible with applications and hardware with which Windows Vista was already compatible. Presentations given by Microsoft focused on a redesigned Windows shell with a new taskbar, referred to as the Superbar, and performance improvements. Some standard applications that have been included with prior releases of Microsoft Windows, including Windows Calendar, Windows Mail, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Photo Gallery, are not included in Windows 7; most are instead offered separately at no charge as part of the Windows Live Essentials suite.

Not all of these features will be available to our customers on the PACs. Also, many of these features will not be used by ourselves when Windows 7 arrives on our staff computers. However, it is nice to know some of the back ground to an operating system, so when customers ask questions, we know more than the bare minimum. Welcome!!!

Hi Everyone, and welcome to the BPL Staff Training BLOG. We are going to use this space to answer the questions about staff training initiatives, that we in the training room are putting on for you. For example, the Windows 7 Training, or Office 2010 Training.

I only ask two things of you BPL staffers out there in Library Land. Fires, please have a bit of patience with Library Lady, as I answer your questions. I may have to confirm my response with IT, or look into the issue myself, to make sure I get all of my facts straight.

Secondly, try have an open mind about my BLOG. Use this as a place to pose questions of your Training Team. You can do this as a registered user, or anonymously- it is up to you. but remember that this is a tool here to help you. So bookmark the blog in FireFox, and take a look every once and a while- I bet you will like what you find. And this way, you can stay up to date!
